We’re proud to say that from July 2024, all Marion Bay chicken products are certified as carbon neutral through Climate Active Carbon Neutral standard for products and services.
Carbon neutral means taking action to reduce and remove as much carbon (and other greenhouse gases such as methane) from the atmosphere as making our products puts into it.
This includes all emissions resulting from producing Marion Bay chicken, from raw materials for feed, to growing, processing and transporting the feed, to rearing, transporting and processing the chickens, to selling through our supermarkets partners and even what happens to the packaging once products are sold to consumers. A full list of activities included can be found in our Public Disclosure Statement on the climate active website
We build upon our own emissions reduction strategy by purchasing certified carbon credits that offset the remaining product carbon footprint. Offsets are projects that reduce, remove or capture emissions from the atmosphere such as reforestation, renewable energy or energy efficiency
At Marion Bay, we’re reducing our impact by making changes to the way we do business.
Reduced waste to landfill through optimising processing operations and maximising recycling of packaging and organic matter.
Switched
progressively to
LED lighting.
Upgraded and installed
a new spin chiller for
greater efficiency.
Installed an additional
refrigeration system, with
heat recovery used to
make hot water.
Installed an innovative heat recovery system at our hatchery at our Tasmanian hatchery to recycle heat released by the embryos during the incubation process.
We invest in projects around Australia and around the world that reduce or remove carbon from the atmosphere to offset the emissions that we cannot eliminate. Many of these projects also have additional environmental and social benefits. We aim to support projects that support sustainable forestry, agriculture and food and waste management.
This project in Tasmania sequesters carbon by converting an existing short rotation plantation forest to a long rotation plantation forest. Certified as Australian Carbon Credit Units.
This is a poultry litter-based power project in India. Certified under Gold Standard for the Global Goals.
